Waterloo Fire Rescue is hoping you have a safe Christmas and are out with some tips to avoid a fire this holiday season.
John Percy is the Public Education Officer with Waterloo Fire Rescue and says it is important to keep your tree watered.
“Trees do get dry, so it is important to water them every day. Make sure your tree is kept away from ignition sources such as furnaces, base heaters, space heaters and candles; if you do not, it will dry up.”
Waterloo Fire Rescue reminds you that it is the law to have working smoke alarms on every story and outside all sleeping areas of your home and that every home must have at least one Carbon Monoxide alarm near sleeping areas.
Percy says the holidays are also a great time to go over your family’s escape plan in case of a fire.
