The Grand River Film Festival wraps up this weekend with a viewing today from a film by a man born and raised in Kitchener.
Michael Buie’s “The Lake” has a screening at 2 this afternoon at the Galaxy Cinema on Hespeler Road in Cambridge. It tells the story of the decision a man faced with a terminal illness makes.
It’s a personal story for Michael Buie who dedicated the film to his step-father Paul Kuntz formerly of Kuntz Electroplating.
But he explains its the story many people who have been diagnosed with a deadly illness have in how they choose to deal with it.
“There was a woman that wanted to end her own life. And it was her choice and I admired that. Her choice and with her family. And she didn’t come from anger like my character did in “The Lake”. She came from a very peaceful place.”
Buie says he doesn’t necessarily agree with the character he created in the movie. But he hopes the movie will prompt discussion outside of the movie theatre.
