Fire prevention demos planned for Laurier Thursday

As fire prevention week continues, Waterloo Fire Rescue is teaming up with Wilfrid Laurier University and doing two live burns today at Alumni Field.
Demonstrations will occur at 11:20 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. at Alumni Field.
John Percy, Public Education Officer with Waterloo Fire spoke with 570 News.
“What those demonstrations consist off…they are designed and created to show what a bedroom looks like, and what a typical living room looks like and we’re going to set them on fire.”
This week, fire officials are hoping to spread the importance of working smoke alarms – especially in sleeping areas.
The message behind this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm!”
