YouTube video of physical altercation between University student and condo manager goes viral

A YouTube video is going viral around the region that shows an altercation between a condo manager and a group of students.

The incident happened on Wednesday inside an office of Waterloo-based property manager Domus Housing. Students were there to address their concerns that the Sage II condo building is still not ready to live in, even though residents were initially told they could move-in on September 1st.

One of the students involved spoke to 570 news, he says the students were only there because most of them are temporarily homeless.

“My roommates and I are international students, we signed the lease in May and they promised us we could move in by September 1st . Later, in the middle of August, they told us it would be delayed until September 8th. I have been looking for a place to live for a week and you can imagine how difficult it is when I am not from Canada,” said the Wilfrid Laurier University student, who has asked to remain anonymous.

“We continued to be e-mailed about delays with our last one saying October 1st, which was then delayed another nine days. Some of my friends are homeless because of this, so a bunch of us went to the owners office to try and find a solution. They just kept saying ‘I don’t know’ and then the manager showed up, he started yelling at a couple and then asked them to leave. That’s when the situation in the video happened.”

CTV reported that the employee involved in the altercation no longer works for the company, and that Domus Housing released a statement saying they do not condone this kind of behaviour.

They said partial occupancy for the building on Spruce Street should be approved no later than Monday, as inspections were still taking place.
