NBC’s Heroes Reborn filming at Kitchener City Hall this week

You may catch a glimpse of TV stars if you’re in downtown Kitchener this week.

NBC and Universal’s ‘Heroes Reborn’ is shooting all week long in Carl Zehr Square.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase our community and some of the great buildings we have,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, “but more importantly, it’s [a boost] for our local economy, because we know that these film productions spend money on hotel rooms, on food orders, and all these kinds of things.”

“Canadian television series productions can spend as much as $10,000 to $15,000 a day in the communities that they are producing in,” said Rod Regier, executive director of economic development at the city.

“This production is terrific news for both our ongoing strategic focus, and for the businesses in the downtown that will benefit from an additional 100 or more people in the city.”

It’s expected that filming will take place anytime between 8am and 10pm daily during the week.

The Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing for the City, Victoria Raab says there will be no road closures while the film crew is here.

College Street may be downsized to one lane during production, however.

“What they do welcome is people to come and have a look, and take pictures, and stand on the sidelines on King Street,” Raab says.

“It’s really exciting to see this kind of a production in action. They’ll be blocking off the insides of the windows of City Hall on the ground floor, and the scene might look different than it ever will again.”
