Waterloo moves leaf collection vote to 2016

Any talk of scaling back the City of Waterloo’s loose leaf collection program has been put off until the new year.
A recommendation from staff, if approved, would have resulted in the program only applying to areas with mature trees.
It would have taken effect in the fall of 2016.
However, the Record reports, many councillors wanted any decision put off until after this leaf collection season.
It will now be debated in February during budget deliberations.
The current system provides loose leaf collection for the entire city.
Over the past five years, that has been costly, with the city going over budget to the tune of $112,000 thanks to overtime and collection costs.
