Waterloo Region housing starts up in August

An uptick in new home construction in Waterloo Region last month.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports housing starts totalled over 33-hundred units last month, up from just over 29-hundred in July.

CMHC Senior Market Analyst Erica McLerie says, “Total housing starts trended higher due to more townhouse and apartment starts.”

She points out townhomes are typically more affordable than single-detached homes and “Growth in the population aged between 25 and 34 years old has increased demand from first-time buyers looking for their first home.”
