Brother of the late Wayne Wettlaufer starts petition for a by election to fill empty council seat

A vacancy left in regional council will officially be declared this coming week.

Wayne Wettlaufer was elected into council this past October and passed away in June of a heart attack.

His brother, Larry, started an online petition hoping a by election will be held to fill his brother’s seat.

Wettlaufer says he’s embarrassed to think that they can take the right to vote away.

“Three plus years left in a four year term. No democracy is ever going to allow someone to be appointed. That is not right. My father fought for the right to vote, so that we can vote.”

Someone could be appointed into the seat at next week’s council meeting.
