Heavy storm hits Waterloo Region (WITH PHOTOS)

A severe weather system slammed through southern Ontario yesterday, causing power outages and interrupting long weekend plans for many residents.

Environment Canada issued a thunderstorm warning just before 5 p.m. ET and ended the warning around 6:30 p.m. A thunderstorm watch also ended around 11 p.m.

The Waterloo Region was also under a severe thunderstorm warning, some parts of Waterloo were even battered by large hail.

Areas between Lake Huron and Toronto also experienced power outrages from the storm.

Environment Canada had also issued tornado warnings for many areas at one point in the afternoon, but downgraded them to severe thunderstorm warnings in most areas.
