Shooting prompts Guelph hospital to boost security

Guelph General Hospital will be enhancing it’s security following a shooting last May.

The hospital’s plan is to be enhanced as of this September to help cope with last May’s tragic shooting between Guelph Police and 36-year-old Brandon Scott.

The hospital’s VP of Human Resources and Support Services Rod Carroll told us that health care has seen an increase trend in aggressiveness and violence in the workplace.

“Hospitals and other care facilities have to respond to that type of trend and make enhancements for the health and safety of staff, patients and our visitors.”

Carrol also said that the cost of security will affect the hospital in other ways. Staffing reductions will take place, 1 full-time worker and 9 patient support workers will lose their jobs.

The hospital’s plan is scheduled to take effect by September 8th.
