Tornado touches down south of Calgary

by STEPHANIE FROESE

Funnel clouds spotted south of Calgary early Wednesday afternoon caused a tense few hours for those watching the sky in and around the city.

Environment Canada confirmed a tornado did in fact touch down at 12:45 p.m., about 10 kilometers north of Priddis before the system moved over Calgary’s south and tapered off eastward.

Authorities are looking into potential damage on the nearby Tsuu T’ina First Nation.

Wind gusts were reported up to 154 Km/h in the Hussar area as the system moved though east Alberta.

South Calgary residents saw hail the size of baseballs.
