OPP to focus on aggressive drivers leading into Canada Day

Aggressive drivers will be the focus of a campaign the OPP launched on Friday morning.

The provincial force says speed-related deaths currently lead the other high-risk behaviours that cause fatal motor vehicle collisions.

There have been 129 road deaths on OPP-patrolled roads so far this year. A 25-year-old woman was killed on the 401 in Toronto early Friday morning.

“Safe drivers refrain from behaviours such as speeding, following too close, making unsafe lane changes and road rage, something drivers should never let influence their driving. We want to see all drivers adopt safe driving behaviours and take pride in the excellent example they set and for their contributions to helping us save lives on our roads,” said OPP Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair, Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support.

Officers will also be out on the water and trails, encouraging boaters to wear their life jacket and ensuring that those off-roading are wearing a helmet.

The campaign runs until Canada Day.
