The St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation will once again benefit from the Manulife LPGA Classic taking place in our own backyard.
It has been the official charity partner of the tournament since it debuted in Waterloo in 2012.
Today is Red Day Friday. Spectators and players are asked to wear red to help raise awareness for women’s health issues. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in Canada.
Staff at St. Mary’s and Manulife’s offices are also planning to wear red that day.
We’re being encouraged to tweet a photo of OUR Red Day outfit using the hashtag #RedDayFriday.
You can win two upgraded tickets for the skybox.
So far close to $850,000 has been donated. “We’re expecting to top the $1-million mark with this year’s tournament and those funds have been earmarked for the development of our cardiac program at St. Mary’s,” says Foundation President, Peter Sweeney.
That’s in big part to the Manulife, who is matching every dollar donated. So your $5-dollar donation becomes $10-dollars instantly, and so on.
He says the funds are being used to help establish a heart rhythm program at the hospital. That should save patients a trip to London in the next year.
