10:00 – Unifor in Toyota?
Bob VanCleef, National representative, Organizing Department, Unifor

The recent announcement by Toyota that it was moving production of the Corolla from Ontario to Mexico appears to have kickstarted the union drive launched earlier by Unifor. The Automotive News reports that the union has sent members from other Canadian plants to Cambridge and Woodstock in recent weeks to gauge interest. In fact, it says it held a pair of informational telephone conferences earlier this month, and about 600 workers called in. Toyota has promised to replace Corolla production here with other lines, but for some workers, that’s not easing their concern. Unifor plans a major rally this Saturday, starting at the Cambridge plant’s gates and ending at a nearby school.
