11:00 – Comedian – Heckled

Jen Grant says in 16 years as a stand-up comedian, she’s never experienced anything like it. It was May 13th…she’d been booked for a 45 minute set at the Ontario Printing and Imaging Association corporate awards ceremony. She was about three minutes into her routine when the sexual comments started…one man said “There’s a 51 per cent chance that my buddy here will have sex with you . . . and I will take the other 49 per cent” followed by “ohhhh the things I would do to you” Grant says the comments continued…and despite trying to push through, she began crying onstage. The company President has been quoted as saying she didn’t hear the heckler – as he was at the front and she was at the back…the employee has reportedly been suspended with pay as the investigation continues. Good friend, and fellow comedian, Christina Walkinshaw, knows this scene all too well. Her blog post gained national attention a few years ago when she wrote about losing a gig at Yuk Yuk’s in Niagara. She says she was sexually harassed by a group of guys and when she complained to the manager was told ‘Oh sorry, we thought you liked it.’ Walkinshaw says there’s a difference between having thick skin – and sexual harassment in the workplace.
11:30 – Bus stop busts

You pull up to a red light, scan around, make sure there are no cops, and pull out your phone. What you don’t realize is the person waiting for the bus on the corner is an undercover police officer. The officer then contacts a uniformed officer who pulls you over and hands you a ticket. The Hamilton Police Service has been working on this special project, called “Traffic Watch”, in the city’s east end. Over a three day period 23 tickets were issued.
