10:00 – Back to work legislation
Allison Jones, Reporter, The Canadian Press
Ontario’s premier is raising the possibility of back-to-work legislation for striking teachers, as thousands of students have been out of school for nearly five weeks. The Liberal government is waiting on a ruling from the Ontario Labour Relations Board on the legality of the strikes, and is also awaiting advice from the Education Relations Commission on whether the students’ school years are in jeopardy. Premier Kathleen Wynne says once those rulings and recommendations are in, the government would act. She adds, “I will take whatever action that I need to take to get the students back to school as quickly as possible.”
10:30 – NDP Post Office Promise
Alexandre Boulerice, Post Office Critic, NDP
The Federal N-D-P says it would put a stop to the home delivery phase-out plan of Canada Post – and restore service to those households that have already lost their home delivery. The post office is in the second year of a controversial five-year plan to phase out door-to-door delivery for more than 5 million households. The announcement follows a decision earlier this week by some Montreal-area mayors to join a court challenge against the phase-out of home delivery. Canada Post argues that the move is necessary for the Crown Corporation to remain financially sustainable as the volume of mail declines. It is also cutting up to 8,000 jobs. Post Office Critic Alexandre Boulerice joins us now to share his plan.
