$3 million dollar boost for Communitech’s Open Data Exchange

Canada’s technology sector was in the spotlight today.

Treasury Board president Tony Clement, Kitchener-Waterloo MP Peter Braid announced that the federal government will be contributing up to $3 million dollars over three years to Communitech to develop the Open Data Exchange.

The Open Data Exchange acts as a marketplace for data and will be based in Waterloo.

Clement says, “The creation of an open data institute in Waterloo will allow the project to leverage the extensive knowledge and resources already in the region, while benefitting the information communications technology cluster.”

The project is expected to develop 15 new data-driven companies and create 370 jobs.
