11:00 – Mayfair Hotel
Lisa Harmey, independent building designer & started petition
The battle over the old Mayfair Hotel in downtown Kitchener continues – with an online petition now up and running. Over 60 people – out of the requested 100 – have given their support – it states, “If this building is demolished in this way, an opportunity is lost & the credibility of the city as well as its future will suffer.” Lisa Harmey, an independent designer, is asking Council for a knowledgeable assessment and says the city has fallen short of best practices. The petition, which she started, can be found on change.org. She joins us now to update us on a Heritage meeting that was held yesterday afternoon, which featured the hotel on the agenda.
