10:00 – Sex ed – strike
Claudia Rulli, Spokesperson, one of the April 14th rally organizer, Parents & Students on strike: one week no school
Tens of thousands of students around Ontario will be out of class this week as a third school board is hit with a teachers’ strike. Public high school teachers in Peel region are joining their counterparts in Durham and Sudbury on the picket lines today, after four days of intense bargaining failed to produce an agreement. Public high school teachers in Waterloo Region have not served the board with 5 days’ notice of strike action….meaning it’s classes as usual today. The union that represents Ontario’s public elementary teachers…will be in a legal strike position on May 10th. Meantime, on another front, some parents have pulled their kids from school today to protest the province’s new sex-education curriculum. Claudia Rulli was one of the April 14th rally organizers and has two children – a five year old daughter and a 2 year old son. They’ve been pulled from their York Region District School board today, as she says the curriculum is age inappropriate, calls the consultation project ‘a joke’ – and wants the subject material taught in high school – not elementary school.
