Hugh McGuire, Founder, Pressbooks & Librivox & co-editor, ‘book: ‘a futurist’s manifesto’
An interesting blog post ‘Why can’t we read anymore?’ by Hugh McGuire outlines just how distracted we really are. McGuire admits he’s been finding it more difficult to focus on words, and sentences, and paragraphs – the things books are filled with. McGuire points out that our digital devices and software are “finely tuned to train us to pay attention to them, no matter what else we should be doing.”
12:30 – Retirement Money: to spend or not to spend?

A new report from HSBC suggests Canadians are the most likely to spend all their savings before they pass. 16,000 working-age and retired people were surveyed in 15 countries, including 1,000 Canadians. The report says 27 per cent of Canadians will spend all their money, and let their children create their own wealth. It goes on to say that 44 per cent of retirees have reached “at least one of their retirement hopes, and only 11 per cent say they will provide financial support to grown-up children.
