The Kitchener Rangers will be looking for a new head coach.
The team announced this morning Troy Smith’s contract will not be renewed.
Meantime, General Manager Murry Hiebert’s contract has been extended through the 2017-18 season.
In a news release, Hiebert says he ‘met with Troy to inform him of my decision. His professionalism and disappointment was as I would have expected.’
Hiebert adds, ‘Troy worked extremely hard for the Rangers organization and the respect of his peers around the OHL has been communicated to me on a number of occasions, but I felt it was necessary to move in a different leadership direction on the bench.’
There is no word at this time as to who will replace Smith behind the bench.
Smith joined the Rangers as an Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development in 2006.
