1:00 – Cycling
Julien Papon, cycling columnists for the Globe & Mail Drive section. He’s also the founder of Vitess Bicycle Corporation and the former director of the Ontario Cycling Association
Andy Wilson, National Can-Bike Coordinator
An interesting article in the Globe and Mail by cycling columnist Julien Papon – called “Why aren’t training or tests mandatory for riding a bike?” He says that riding a bike, like driving a car, takes a certain set of skills and practice…and wonders why we believe that, from age 5 and on, that we know how to properly ride a bike. Training is mandatory and we’re tested on our driving skills before getting a license…but there’s no such thing for biking.

While it can be scary to saddle up and cycle in urban areas – Cycling Canada’s CAN-BIKE program is a series of courses that focuses on safety – and enjoying the ride. National Coordinator, Andy Wilson tells us that they do quite a bit of instruction in the Waterloo area, and Kitchener is now coming on board as well.
