Phase two of construction starts this morning at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Workers are building a patient tower which, once complete will be the new emergency wing.
In the meantime, Angelo Presta, Director of Capital Redevelopment with the hospital tells 570 News that those needing to access emergency services will now be able to do so via the entrance facing Coronation Blvd.
“Come in through our east entrance. There is a new stop light that was put there … there will be a new canopy and new entrance way that’s easily visible for them to drop individuals off at the emergency entrance.”
Presta says people can then park their vehicle at the new parking lot across from the entryway.
The main entrance will also be closed on the west side of the hospital and visitors will be able to enter at the back, or an alternate front entrance.
To make these changes easier for those accessing the hospital, Presta says that there will be security directing patients and visitors to the alternate entryways during the first few days of this construction phase.
The new wing is expected to be complete by Winter 2017.
