AUDIO: Rangers select Greg Meireles 12th overall

The Kitchener Rangers and the rest of the OHL took part in this year’s Priority Selection Draft.

The Rangers picked centreman Greg Meireles from Orleans, ONT with the 12th pick in the first round. Meireles had 41 points in 24 games for the Ottawa Jr. 67’s Minor Midget AAA club.

The Rangers added to their back end selecting Elijah Roberts (@ElijahRoberts98) from Brampton with the 10th pick in the second round. He had 33 points in 54 games with the Toronto Marlboro Minor Midget AAA team.

Rangers General Manager, Murray Hiebert spoke with 570’s Chris Pope on Friday about today’s draft.

Hiebert and Pope also wrapped up the 2014-15 season for the Rangers. They spoke about replacing defensive stalwarts Max Iafrate, and captain Liam Maaskant, what the team plans to do when it comes to goaltending, and where negotiations are at when it comes to signing last year’s third round selection Jack LaFontaine. Hiebert also spoke about his own contract – which expires in three months – and whether he believes he’ll receive an extension.
