Buckle up! WRPS launch Spring Seatbelt Campaign

The Waterloo Regional Police Force have launched their Spring Seatbelt Campaign today.

Officers say they’ll be increasing checks for seatbelt usage and reminding drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Police say that if you get caught without a seatbelt it will cost you $240 and two demerit points.

Motor vehicle collisions remain a leading cause of injury-related deaths and officials say 25% of all occupants who were killed in a crash were not wearing a seatbelt.

“Seatbelts remain the single most effective way to reduce vehicle related injuries and fatalities,” said Staff Sergeant Jim Strand, of the Traffic Services Branch. “The simple step of buckling your seatbelt can save your life if involved in a crash.”

The campaign runs today through to April 20th.
