Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound M-P Larry Miller has apologized after suggesting those who wish to wear a niqab while swearing the oath of citizenship ought to “stay the hell where you came from.” In a statement, Miller says his comments were inappropriate, but says he stands by his view that anyone being sworn in as a new citizen must uncover their face.
10:30 – Busker in cuffs
Frank Monteiro, Councillor, City of Cambridge
Local musicians are holding a Busk-In later today – in support of 19 year old Cambridge resident Liv Gains. It’s set to take place outside Giant Tiger on Main Street in Cambridge at noon. Gains was handcuffed and arrested last week for Busking – singing and player her guitar. She was fined 65 dollar for ‘soliciting near a public transit stop’ – according to reports, there is no public transit stop nearby. The teen says Giant Tiger did not call the police and have been supportive of her playing outside the store. The City of Cambridge does not have a bylaw covering busking – and one local Councillor sees nothing wrong with busking.
