Highway 7 expansion between Kitchener and Guelph expected to start in May

In about two months time, construction will start on the Highway 7 expansion between Kitchener and Guelph.

Construction for the major project is expected to take about five construction seasons to complete.

The first construction spot to get tackled is Guelph Street under the Conestoga Parkway, which will be closed until October 2015.

“There won’t be a posted detour route, but there will be signs posted for any drivers approaching Guelph Street for each direction to let them know that one little piece of Guelph Street under Highway 85 will be closed” says Liane Fischer, MTO Spokesperson. “Then they can choose their own way around.”

This coming fall crews will then begin work on widening Victoria Street in Kitchener, and then build the Shirley Avenue extension.

All the land necessary to complete the project has been acquired, but some people and businesses have asked for a later possession date.

An exact cost for the total project has not yet been released.
