Costs associated with running regional council top $1-million

It’s costing taxpayers a pretty penny to cover the costs of having a regional council.

A report suggests the tab for salaries, benefits, expenses and service on regional boards for the chair and councillors totals about $1.1-million.

The bulk of that – at over $750-thousand – goes towards salaries.

The Record reports when all of those items are added up, Regional Chair Ken Seiling received more than $187-thousand last year.

Second on the list was councillor Jane Mitchell at over $91-thousand and then Tom Galloway at over $83-thousand.

The paper says, for the most part, most councillors received between $51-thousand and $55-thousand.

The boards they serve on are varied, ranging from Police Services to the Grand River Conservation Authority.
