It was the end of an era late last week as production at Courtland’s Schneider’s plant finally wound down for good. While a few employees remain to decommission the plant, many said goodbye to each other after years of service. While production continues in Hamilton, the memories of the 125 year mainstay are set to live on. A new exhibit, on the history of Schneider’s should be open at the Waterloo Region museum next year. Over 250 artifacts from company archives are being donated to the museum, as well as a 200-thousand dollar donation from Maple Leaf Foods.
10:30 AM – Province- parking tickets
Daiene Vernile, Liberal MPP, Kitchener Centre
Ken Seiling, Chair, Waterloo Region
The Liberal Government is expected to introduce new legislation this spring that would crack down on those with outstanding traffic tickets. The aim is to make it harder for people to renew their licenses and plate stickers – as people often don’t pay up. Kitchener Centre Liberal MPP Daiene Vernile says municipalities are frustrated and have reached out to the province and asked if the government can do something about it. Locally, unpaid tickets mean about 40 million dollars in lost revenue – and equates to over a billion dollars across the province. We are joined by Regional Chair, Ken Seiling, who says that shortfall needs to be made up somewhere. (Property taxes.)
