1:30 – App – distracted driving
Ted Hellard, founder, AppColony
A new app allows drivers to feel connected while focusing on the road – and it aims to end distracted driving in Canada. Recent studies show that distracted driving – which includes texting, calling or emailing while behind the wheel contributes to 80 per cent of all car crashes.  OneTap acts as your ‘personal assistant’ on the go and uses the built-in GPS on your phone to know when you’re in a vehicle and driving. Once you get going, OneTap is automatically enabled, blocking out pings, rings and other notifications that pull our attention away from the road. When a text comes in, OneTap doesn’t just block the alert. Instead, its Auto-Reply function replies to calls and texts immediately, letting people know that you’re driving and when you expect to be finished. In case of an emergency, you will be notified and can pull over to take the call – calls can be routed through bluetooth as well. The app is being offered free to download for all Canadians. AppColony says “OneTap will transform driving in the same manner seatbelts did for previous generations.”
