10:00 – Extreme Cold – School Board Policy
Michael Harris, MPP, Kitchener Conestoga
It is NOT a four day weekend for local students at either board today. Due to the weather conditions on Friday, the Waterloo Region District School Board and the Waterloo Catholic District School Board closed all schools – and all Extended Day Childcare Programs too. The policy introduced in the fall, seemed to take parents by surprise – as many learned that schools would be closed when the temperature, combined with the wind-chill, reaches -35 or colder. Kitchener Conestoga Conservative MPP Michael Harris weighed in on Friday’s decision – saying he received phone calls from concerned parents – and that he is now writing a letter to the board about the policy.
