It’s something we hear all the time…there is too much bad news, stories are too depressing; too sad – why can’t we do a good news story for once? At 570 News, we strive to maintain a balanced approach – we have a good news story with Lisa and Glenn every morning – as well as ‘Above and Beyond,’ which honours someone in the community whose made a positive contribution. We do fun pieces, information segments and help community groups with promotion. However, it’s argued that in mainstream news, a story isn’t ‘news’ unless it’s a breaking new item, serious or disturbing. We speak with Positive News editor Seán Dagan Wood now, who says the media’s focus on negative news is the worst it’s ever been – and we’re reaching what he calls ‘peak negativity.’ He joins us now to discuss why the world needs more positive and uplifting news – and the impact that can have.

The Kitchener Rangers snapped their five game road losing streak with confidence on Thursday night in North Bay. Brandon Robinson and Ryan MacInnis each had a pair as the Rangers defeated the Battalion 5-1. Jake Paterson was also strong in Kitchener’s goal, kicking aside 26 of 27 shots. Waterloo native Kyle Wood picked up an assist on North Bay’s only goal. The Rangers skate in Sudbury tonight. 570 News has the pre-game show at 7pm.
