11:00 – Quebec girl – stripped
Craig Parry, Criminal Defence lawyer, Kitchener
An independent review of Quebec’s school strip-search policy has been ordered following an uproar over a 15-year-old girl who was made to remove all her clothes over suspicions she was selling drugs. The story exploded earlier this week – the Quebec City girl says female officials at her school forced her to strip behind a sheet so they could go through her clothing looking for marijuana. The Quebec Education Minister (Yves Bolduc) initially said high schools in the province are allowed to strip-search students under “strict” guidelines, in a “respectful” manner, and is permitted when student security is in question. He has since distanced himself from the endorsement.
