11:00 – Sex Trafficking Waterloo Region

Sex trafficking is not just happening across Canada but it’s happening right here in our very own backyard, in motel and hotel rooms located right off the 401. 570′s Lisa Drew rolled out a five-part series, putting the spotlight on sex trafficking here in Waterloo Region. Young women, aged 16-20, are most likely to be victims locally, with some being lured from area college and university campuses. Timea Nagy joins us to talk about a new funding campaign Walk With Me Canada Victim Services, started on social media. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness, and raise funds for a Survivor Lead Educational Project. This project is the first of its kind in Canada – and something that say is sorely needed – as there is a lack of prevention.
11:30 – Harper – Terrorist

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is set to unveil new anti-terrorism legislation today in an effort to fight homegrown extremists. The legislation comes from an internal federal review of the fatal attacks last October of two Canadian soldiers – Cpl. Nathan Cirillo shot and killed at the National War Memorial and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent rammed and killed by a car. Reports say the legislation will amend certain current laws and propose new ones such as; allowing police to detain a suspected terrorist without charges for longer periods of time, make it a crime to “promote terrorism”, including online, and make it easier to stop suspected jihadists from boarding flights. Dr. Veronica Kitchen Associate Professor, Balsillie School of International Affairs with the University of Waterloo will discuss the impact of the legislation on Canadians.
