11:00 – Medical marijuana
Chris Jones, volunteer, Shop 420, Kitchener
A local medical marijuana user is calling for changes to the federally regulated program. Chris Jones, whose wife owns Shop 420 says there are a few issues that need to be addressed. While they can assist you with the paperwork required to get a Medical Marijuana Licence – it’s up to the Doctor to sign off on it. Jones says many Doctors are hesitant to do so as they don’t want to be known as ‘pot doctors’ – as well as come under the scrutiny of the College of physicians, which does not support the marijuana system. Once you are able to legally use – you have to register with a licensed producer (13 in total in Canada) which then mails dried marijuana to your home – which can take months (Jones has been waiting since June) Because of the delay, citizen run dispensaries (or compassionate clubs) start – there’s one here in Kitchener, which will sell marijuana to card holders. Another issue is the cost…under the old licensing program, you could grow for about a dollar a gram…to buy costs between 6-14 dollars a gram.

11:30 – Roundabouts
Sean Strickland, Regional Councillor, Region of Waterloo
Still dubbed one of the most dangerous intersections in the city, a roundabout is still expected to be constructed at Homer Watson Boulevard and Ottawa. A meeting will be held tonight in Regional Chambers (150 Frederick Street, Kitchener) to discuss the expropriation of properties surrounding that area in order to move ahead with the planned roundabout. Regional Council has approved the installation of a three lane roundabout at the intersection of Ottawa St S at Homer Watson Blvd in Kitchener and that is expected to be complete in 2016.
