New electronic highway sign installed over Hwy 7/8

A new high-tech electronic sign has been installed in town, and it’s similar to others you may have seen on provincial highways around the province that advise of driving conditions and provide safe driving tips.

MTO spokesperson, Liane Fisher, tells 570 News that it was installed Tuesday night over the eastbound lanes of Highway 7/8, near Westmount.

Fisher says this is one of three nearby signs being installed that will help with driver safety and congestion.

“And for, just for traffic operation and flow. We can warn drivers if there is a delay or a highway closure up ahead.”

The new sign is not up and running just yet, pending connection testing.

Another sign will be installed this coming March on the 401 near Woodstock and one is in the planning phase over the westbound lanes of Hwy 401 near Hespeler Road.
