Cambridge facing almost $200,000 deficit

Cambridge city councillors have a bigger challenge than usual heading into budget time.
They’re facing an operating budget deficit of almost $200,000.
That covers such areas as public works, fire services, planning and roads.
The Record reports, that could mean a hike in property taxes.
However, the city’s director of finance Jonathan Lautenbach tells the paper, the city could instead dip into its tax rate stabilization reserve to cover the shortfall.
The deficit for fire services is close to $300,000 and that’s blamed on the fact several senior officers have been ill, forcing the department to fill the staffing gap with overtime and temporary hires.
