High winds knock down trees and cut power

High winds downed trees and wreaked havoc for motorists and knocked out power for thousands of residents in southern Ontario.

Waterloo Region’s three hydro utilities have been working through the night to restore sporadic outages.

As wind gusts reached up to 100 km/h in some locations last night provincial police were warning of numerous instances of trees knocked down onto roadways.

A wind warning for Waterloo Region has been cancelled, but it is still blustery.

There are also a number of tree limbs down on area trees to keep in mind as you hit the road this morning.
