LRT the big winner on election night

It was a victory for many last night, and that includes, the region’s Light Rail Transit project.

Regional chair, Ken Seiling was re-elected for his tenth term last night after a campaign against a candidate staunchly opposed to the L-R-T, Jay Aissa.

“There were no members of council elected who were in favour of cancelling the project” says Regional Chair, Ken Seiling. “Certainly I ran on carrying on. So I think the answer is fairly clear to everybody where we’re going.”

Meanwhile, Aissa says people chose last night to carry the debt load that goes along with the vision for light rail.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what happens now” says Aissa. “And see how many of those businesses that they ruin on King Street. And all the people when their taxes go up, I’m going to sit back here and say “I told you so.”‘

“Honestly, now I look back and I think it was the best thing that could happen to me” adds Aissa. “For me to fight with all of them, it would have been a tough four years.”

Last night Seiling received nearly 64,000 votes, while Aissa came in second with just over 25,000 votes.
