Man arrested after standoff in Kitchener

A 21-year-old Kitchener man was arrested and charged after a standoff on Shanley Street in Kitchener.

For about 8 hours a person was inside the home and refused to come out. Police were called to the home around 4:30 Thursday morning after an alleged assault at the home involving another occupant.

Police say the victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the alleged assault.

A nearby neighbor tells 570 News that she was told to stay inside.

“Officers came to the door and said that there was something going on and told me to stay in the house, preferably at the back…they weren’t anticipating any trouble.”

Police made the arrest just before 12:30 Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old man is facing a number of charges, including assault, uttering threats, weapons dangerous and assaulting a peace officer.
