Problem Gambling Prevention Week in Waterloo Region

It’s Problem Gambling Prevention week in Waterloo Region and the Responsible Gambling Council will make a stop in the region.

They’re travelling across the province to educate people about the dangers associated with problem gambling.

Approximately 3.4% of Ontarians have a moderate to severe gambling problem, and one in ten Ontarians say they have been negatively affected by someone’s gambling. That’s around 58,800 in Waterloo Region, Dufferin and Wellington Counties.

“If that person is spending more time gambling rather than with the friends or family” says Heather Ly, Project Coordinator with the Responsible Gambling Council. “If they’re hiding bills or past due notices, or if they’re neglecting work or personal needs. Those are some of the signs that are obvious from the friends and family’s perspectives.”

The Responsible Gambling Council will be at the KW Gaming Centre this Thursday October 9th from 6pm-9pm for anyone interested in more information.
