The debate over assisted suicide returned to the spotlight yesterday on Parliament Hill as M-P’s heard an impassioned plea against allowing people to help others kill themselves. Steve Passmore is a disability activist from Hamilton who told Parliament that he will be “defined as unworthy of life” if society allows assisted suicide for people. Passmore says the Supreme Court must guarantee his right to suffer and to be treated by a physician. In a statement released by the Euthansia Prevention Coalition Passmore said “the Supreme Court must guarantee my right to suffer and to be treated by a physician. I am a person with a disability and I live with suffering. When society defines suffering as worthy of death, then I am defined as unworthy of life.”

Thomas travelled to Switzerland after a friend asked him to accompany him to end his life. Henry, a local resident, asked his friend, Doug, to accompany him on his trip to Dignitas. He wanted to hasten his death while he was still able. Doug agreed. Dying With Dignity invites all to come and hear Doug’s moving experience in accompanying Henry on his final journey. This free event is offered on Sunday Oct. 5 from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. right here at our church. It is a good news story.
10:30- Cowan Expense Scandal Now in OPP hands
The Waterloo Regional Police investigation into spending by Woolwich Mayor Todd Cowan has been turned over to the OPP. Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin consulted with members of his senior leadership team. They decided in the best interests of public confidence, transparency and impartiality, the matter would be best investigated by an outside police agency. The OPP’s Anti-Rackets branch will now take over the investigation.
