Canaccord Genuity is hosting “Great Camp Adventure Walk” for Sickkids in Toronto today. A fundraiser that allows families to walk together in support of the hospital.
Allison Riley was a patient at Sickkids for the first 18 years of her life and feels fortunate being able to give back today.
“I just want to point out how incredible this hospital is and how much of a difference these nurses and doctors make to the patients of all ages. I would just like to account how much you don’t realize how great a place is until you’re gone.”
Riley was born with Chronic Neutropenia, a disorder that produces extremely low neutrophils which is what gives the body an immune system to fight off infection.
With medication, she is able to maintain a somewhat normal life without being completely isolated. Riley added that Dr. Melvin Freedman at Sickkids is one person she will never forget.
“Through his determination and different medical trials and errors, he was the doctor that figured out the perfect combination of medication. It was because of his strong fight, I am here today.”
