Despite reports of a provincial decline of post secondary enrolment, numbers for this fall indicate Conestoga College has attracted a record number of students.
Alan Vaughan, Conestoga’s Vice-President of Enrolment Management, tells 570 News compared to last year, enrolment is up 3.7 per cent.
“We’ve had a 28 per cent increase in our degree programs. Degree programs are relatively new at colleges but parents and students are starting to look at college as a viable option for career focused degree programs.”
He adds they’ve also seen a 12 per cent increase in engineering and I.T. programs.
“We’ve virtually doubled since 2005. We are the fastest growing college in Canada and we’ve brought on a lot of new programs. You have to keep changing to make sure your programs to match the labour market. We’ve done that through our industry connections and partnerships to make sure our programs stay relative and bring on new programs that meet labour needs of the new economy.”
