Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will be spending the next few days undergoing his first round of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The treatment is for an abdominal tumour which doctors have diagnosed as malignant liposarcoma. The doctor leading his care team says the tumour is “aggressive” but adds that physicians are optimistic about their treatment plan. Ford’s brother says the mayor is devastated by the diagnosis but is determined to fight the disease.

The Rangers are now less than a week away from opening the 2014-15 campaign. They were blanked 3-0 by the Wolves at the Aud on Wednesday night in their final exhibition game. Jeff Corbett, Ivan Kashtanov and Jacob Harris were the goal scorers for Sudbury. Despite the loss, the Rangers held a 48-14 advantage in shots. Kitchener opens the regular season on the road in Owen Sound on Wednesday. The two teams then play at the Aud next Friday in Kitchener’s home opener.
