Math scores for grade 6 EQAO are continuing to drop in the province and Waterloo Region’s Catholic District School Board is also seeing a downward trend locally.
David Desantis, Superintendent of Learning, says the Ministry of Education is disappointed as a lot of money has been spent on improving teacher practice.
“Something is happening between Grade 4 and 6, where for some reason the math skills are just not bearing through. We know that our kids understand the math concepts its just applying what they’ve learned to problem solving.”
Desantis adds grade 3 scores stayed relatively the same in all areas.
