Just weeks before flu shot clinics will start to be offered across the country, one of the big suppliers of the flu vaccine announced it would be coming up short on its order.
GlaxoSmithKline said it not be able to fill 30% of the order, or about 2 million doses.
Region of Waterloo Public Health says despite that supplier’s shortfall, there will be no shortage in the Region.
Linda Black in Manager of Vaccine Preventable Disease program says the Public Health Agency of Canada has already secured more doses then needed and contacted 3 other suppliers that will have the vaccine ready on schedule.
“We expect to have delivery of vaccine to the health unit by the end of September and then out to our pharmacies, our family doctors shortly after that.”
Black says the flu is a serious virus and the vaccine not only protects you but protects the one you loved, like very young children and the elderly.
