Wilmot Township faces million dollar payout

The Township of Wilmot has been ordered to pay out over $1 million to a man convicted of careless driving.

The 2008 crash on Wilmot Line killed a teenage girl and left the 17-year-old driver, Timothy Umbach, with serious injuries.

CTV reports that his family launched a case, claiming more posted signs could have made the crash less severe or could have been avoided entirely.

The $1.5 million settlement was reached last fall.

17-year-old Hayley Price-Geddes was killed. Her family has a lawsuit pending, saying the driver of the vehicle was negligent.

According to media reports, the pretrial is scheduled to start next week.
