Laurentian Hills neighbourhood faces termite problem

Termites have reared their ugly head in a Kitchener neighbourhood.
Roughly 20 properties in the Laurentian Hills area are dealing with the potentially expensive problem — one that could cost them thousands of dollars.
The area in question is around Greenock and Briargate Drives, and residents don’t have a lot of time to take action.
A city bylaw states they have 30 days to deal with it at their own cost; however, Coun. Paul Singh says he sides with residents to get more help from the city and has put forward some suggestions to council.
“We relate funding to the problem so the residents that do have the infestation can quickly take that upon and do the injections on their property to protect themselves. The other is to investigate further with other municipalities that may be doing more with treatment to prevent the termites from spreading”
The scope of the infestation is believed to be a first in Kitchener, according to city officials.
