The fourth hour of the 570 Midday Show

1:00 Shi Davidi, with Sportsnet

It was wild and exhausting, but after more than 6 ½ hours the Jays captured their second consecutive extra-innings, walk-off victory against the Tigers on Sunday in the longest game in franchise history.  Jose Bautista, who was 0-for-7 with a pair of intentional walks through the first 18 innings, drove the game-winning hit into right field to score Munenori Kawasaki, who led off the bottom of the 19th with a single, his only hit in seven plate appearances. For the second night in a row, the Jays hung tough against one of the best starting pitchers in the majors and took advantage of a wobbly Tigers bullpen to earn a ninth-inning comeback, which paved the way for the extra-inning drama. The Jays used their entire relief corps, with all seven bullpen arms combining to throw 15.2 scoreless innings after Mark Buerhle allowed five runs – three of them unearned – and was lifted with one out in the fourth.  The sold-out crowd of more than 46,000 – about half of whom remained until the end – was energized, deflated and re-energized multiple times as the sun set and the stadium lights came on.

1:30    Jamie Parker, Crane Operator

570 New’s Lisa Drew talks with Jamie Parker, a crane operator who is working on a building in downtown Kitchener. They elaborate on how dangerous his job is and the demand for crane operators.
